History of Greece 

No one knows with certainty when rice was actually first cultivated in Greece but it was definitely grown in limited quantities at least from the 19th century and until the 1960s it was considered a luxury food! Rice. The Halastra area produces approximately 70% of all Greek rice and the fields are located primarily on river estuaries and coastal areas. Due to the unique location, Greek rice is renowned for its rich flavour. Favourite Greek rice recipes include Pilaf & Lemon Rice. It's also traditionaly used to stuff tomatoes and other vegetables.
